Before you compare laboratories

Two things are worth carrying into every page below. First, purity and amount are separate measurements: purity is the share of the peptide material that is the target compound, amount is how many milligrams of it the vial holds, and a vial can be high purity and underfilled. Second, sterility, endotoxin, heavy metals, residual solvent or TFA content, and screening for unrelated peptide contamination are normally priced as separate add-on analyses. Their absence from a report is the default, not a red flag — but it does mean a product described as third-party tested is not thereby claiming any of those results exist.

How to verify a COA you were sent

Verify a peptide COA in three checks: confirm the document through the issuing laboratory’s own verification route, match the batch reference and date on that record against the document, then confirm with the seller that the tested batch is the batch you were shipped. The common failure in this market is not an invented laboratory but a real report used misleadingly — a PDF edited after issue, a report covering a different batch, or an old report presented as current — and each of the three checks catches a different one of those.

  1. Check it at the source. Most established laboratories publish a verification route: an identifier and key entered on the lab’s own site, or a QR code printed on the report that resolves to the lab’s record. Use that rather than trusting the copy you received. This catches an edited PDF.
  2. Check what the record says. Confirm the compound, batch reference and date on the verified record match the document in front of you. This catches a genuine report attached to different material, and an old report presented as current — a test describes the submitted sample, not later production.
  3. Check it against your vial. Whether the tested batch is the batch you were actually sent is a question for the seller, not the laboratory, and no amount of verification at the lab answers it.

Where a laboratory publishes no verification route at all, the document cannot be confirmed as issued. That makes it an unverified claim rather than a forgery — but it should carry the weight of an unverified claim.

How do I check that a COA covers the vial I actually received?

Match the batch or lot reference on the document against the one on the vial, and read the report date. A verified report describes the sample that was submitted on that date and nothing else, so an unmatched reference means the certificate describes someone else's material even when the document itself is completely genuine. Whether the tested batch is the batch that was shipped is a question for the seller, not for the laboratory.

What if the laboratory has no verification page?

Then the document cannot be confirmed as issued, and the honest reading is that it is an unverified claim rather than a forgery. Some laboratories publish a lookup by report number and key, some print a QR code that resolves to their own record, and some publish neither. Where no first-party verification route exists, contacting the laboratory directly with the report reference is the remaining option, and a certificate that nobody will confirm should carry the weight of an unconfirmed certificate.

Does a COA prove a peptide is sterile or contaminant-free?

No. Sterility testing, endotoxin analysis, heavy metals screening, residual solvent or TFA analysis, and screening for unrelated peptide contamination are normally separate analyses that are ordered and priced individually. A standard identity, amount and purity report says nothing about them unless that specific analysis appears on the document.

How do I verify that a COA is genuine?
